Elizabeth Combs - Race to Win Sweepstakes Grand Prize Winner

Elizabeth Coombs, a home schooling mother of two and elementary student tutor in Virginia, knows the importance of building on students' strengths and interests.

“Every student can learn, but not every student learns in the same way,” she said.

Formerly a second grade teacher in a local public school system, Coombs enjoys the challenge of finding or inventing new ways to present information to children.  She especially enjoys grabbing "teachable moments" with her own children.

“I love seeing the excitement in a child's eyes when he understands and utilizes a new piece of information,” she added.

After winning the Race to Win Sweepstakes, Coombs will now have plenty of new teaching aids to help maintain her goals.

Coombs saw the contest advertised on a Learning Resources’ catalog that she received in the mail.  She decided to enter, but didn’t expect the $1,000 gift card to be hers.  “NO WAY!  What were the chances?  I've never won anything of this size,” she said.

So when the Learning Resources representative called, Coombs asked if she was kidding.  “After I hung-up the phone, I jumped for joy and called my husband,” she added.

Coombs plans on purchasing many things from Learning Resources including:  gears, a microscope, Reading Rods®, GeoSafari® Globe, GeoSafari® Solar System, the Erupting Volcano, the Talking Clever Clock, and a lot of math manipulatives.
Coombs said the contest provided teachers and parents with an excellent opportunity to win exceptional products to use with their students and children.

For future contestants she advised, “Enter!  It only takes a minute.  What do you have to lose?”
