Learning Resources Introduces Flip4Science™, a Step-by-Step Approach to Scaffolded Inquiry
Vernon Hills, Ill., April 2, 2007 — To help teachers engage their students in inquiry-based, hands-on science experiments and prepare them for standardized science tests, Learning Resources, a provider of hands-on educational products for the classroom, developed Flip4Science™ kits. Each kit, geared to grades K-2, provides step-by-step activities in scaffolded inquiry.
“Scaffolded inquiry helps students build the skills and knowledge they need to independently conduct science investigations,” said Carl Benoit, editorial director at Learning Resources. “By progressing through the stages of directed, guided and full inquiry, students will achieve the goal of conducting independent science inquiry. In addition, they will be better prepared for standardized science tests.”
The Flip4Science Kits are aligned with National Science Education Standards, and were written by Karen Ostlund, Ph.D. and Timothy Cooney, Ed.D., educators and experts in scaffolded inquiry. Each Flip4Science kit includes an Activity Center Flip Book, 72-page Teaching Guide, including lesson plans and student recording sheets, five science journals and manipulatives for each activity. Kit titles include Plants & Animals,
Weather, Magnets and Sun, Earth, & Moon.
Flip4Science kits are available now at teacher specialty stores nationwide and at www.LearningResources.com. Each kit retails for $64.95.
