Learning Resources Appoints Etienne Veber CEO and Richard Woldenberg Chairman
Vernon Hills, Ill., September 18, 2007 — Learning Resources, Inc., a leading manufacturer of hands-on educational products for the classroom and learning toys for the home, announced today its appointment of Etienne Veber as chief executive officer. Veber was formerly Learning Resources’ president and chief operating officer. Richard Woldenberg, formerly CEO, was named chairman of Learning Resources.
“Etienne has the business acumen, strategic vision and strong leadership skills needed to lead our company,” said Woldenberg. “I have the utmost confidence in him, as do our associates and business partners. His appointment as CEO is another step in a long-term strategy to position Learning Resources for continued growth.”
“Rick has done a superb job over the years in creating a culture centered on product innovation, operational excellence and customer service,” said Veber. “The company has a great future ahead of it and I am honored to play a leadership role in its continued success.”
Veber joined Learning Resources in July 2005. Since Veber’s arrival, Learning Resources acquired two companies in 2006 with complementary product lines: Educational Insights, Inc., a California-based educational products and toy company, and Safe-T Products, Inc., an Illinois-based manufacturer of tools for teaching math, art and science. The company also made significant investments in its infrastructure dedicated to serving its customer base, including additional warehouse and office space, and enhanced distribution technologies at its distribution center in Vernon Hills, Illinois. It also unveiled a state-of-the-art website designed to help teachers and parents select the right educational products to suit their needs. While all these projects were completed in record time, Learning Resources’ core business continued to experience steady growth.
In his new role, Veber will have overall strategic and operational responsibilities for the company’s expanding global network. As chairman, Woldenberg will focus on long-term strategic and business-development opportunities.
Prior to joining Learning Resources, Veber was president and CEO of Merisant, the Chicago-based manufacturer and marketer of branded low-calorie sweeteners Equal® and Canderel®. He also held various management positions at Monsanto during the 1990s and was appointed president of its subsidiary, The NutraSweet Company, in 1999, a Chicago-based manufacturer of NutraSweet® brand sweetener.
