Learning Resources Helps Promote Nutrition Education with New Products
--Food Pyramid Pocket Chart and Pretend & Play Healthy Snacks Among Introductions

Vernon Hills, Ill., April 5, 2006 --To help schools address rising childhood obesity and comply with a new federal law requiring schools to establish wellness policies, Learning Resources®, a leading manufacturer of  hands-on educational products, has introduced several new products that provide hands-on nutrition education for elementary school children.

A new Food Pyramid Pocket Chart reflects the revised U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) food pyramid nutritional guidelines. The chart is divided into six brightly colored sections, one for each of the six food groups. Nutrition pocket chart cards display color photographs of foods from the various food groups. Retail price: Pocket Chart with cards, $24.50 and without cards, $15.95.

Food Group Bingo makes learning about nutrition fun. Students spin the spinner and try to find on the bingo board a food from the group on which the arrow lands. The first player to cover up a complete line of food items wins, or play could continue until the entire board is covered with the food pyramid markers. Retail price: $8.95.

New Food and Nutrition Classifying Cards are aligned with the USDA’s  revised nutritional guidelines and include portion size for an average preschooler. The 24 double-sided cards feature color photographs on the front and simple sentences providing key nutritional information on the back. Cards encourage sorting and classifying. Retail price: $9.95.

Young students can serve up fun, nutritious snacks with Pretend & Play® Healthy Snacks Food Set.  This set of 18 plastic foods encourages students to make healthy food choices. The set is packaged in a vinyl lunch sack. Retail price: $18.95.
