Shapes You See with Luna™

Model
1. Place a pattern block square and triangle on a piece of paper under the Luna. Move the shapes around several times and arrange them into a familiar object, such as a house or boat.

2. Trace the pattern
blocks and remove
them from the
paper. Create a
picture by adding
details like trees or
water. Identify and
label the triangle
and square.
Guide
3. Provide each child with several different pattern blocks, a piece of paper and a pencil. Have students make various designs with the pattern blocks and use Luna to take snapshots for reference and documentation.

4. Have students develop several designs, then trace the pattern blocks and create pictures. Encourage them to think dynamically; for example using the
triangle as the head of a cow or the trapezoid as a sheep's body.

5. Have the
students share
what they create
with the class by
taking turns placing
their pictures under
Luna. Have them
take snapshots
of their pictures for
digital portfolios.
Assess
6. Create a teacher-generated picture with specific shapes to identify. Have students look for the shapes and identify them on their own using correct spelling. Students can include the Luna-generated pictures in a presentation to be shared with the class.
Extend
7. Challenge students by assigning specific shapes and giving specific scenes to draw such as, Draw a winter scene using two squares and one octagon.
