Exploring Breakfast Bars with Zoomy™

Model
1. Explain to students they will investigate and explore breakfast bars. Show students how to use Zoomy to investigate a breakfast bar.

Guide
2. Break off a piece
of one of the
breakfast bars and
place it under the
Zoomy. Have
students identify
the various grains
and nuts embedded
in the breakfast bar.
Encourage the
students to identify
other physical properties such as color, texture, raisins, salt, or sugar crystals. Repeat the process with other breakfast bars.

3. As students make observations have them use Zoomy to take photos to record their observations.
4. Have students
print photos of
different breakfast
bars, label what
they see in the
snapshots, and
compare and
contrast the
samples.
Assess
5. Have students download the images they have captured and use them in a slideshow presentation. Upload the images or slideshows to your class website to share with families.
Extend
6. Use the breakfast bars much the same way you would use owl pellets. Have students pretend the breakfast bars are samples of animal waste. Students use Zoomy to investigate and formulate conclusions.
