I was very pleased to be sent one of these portable interactive white boards to review, and I was so excited to use it with my class! Unfortunately, I could not get it to calibrate properly due to the fact that my screen does not lie flat against the wall. I use a pull-down screen in my classroom that lays against a molding on the wall that covers an electrical cord. (The cord and its cover was placed there during our modernization.) This prevents the Now! Board from laying flat against the wall, and therefore, everytime I tried to push the pointer against the screen, it moved. This Now! Board works best when projected onto a hard, flat surface. I emailed and was given some advice on how to make it calibrate, but unfortunately, I never could make it work properly in my situation. The other thing that my "trial" model needed is a room in which you can place the computer, projector, and Now! Board laser right in the middle of the room, about 8 feet from the screen. (However, the "full" models will have the capability of projecting from 12 feet, I understand.) Unfortunately, my computer and all of the connecting cables are totally in the wrong location, so what I needed were some very long cables to stretch the Now! Board laser across the room to get it into the right place so that it would project onto the screen. Since I already knew that I had the wrong type of screen for the Now! Board, I decided not to go purchase the cables that were necessary to make it work in my classroom. So I decided to try this Now! Board out in another classroom with a better set up, and guess what? It worked like a charm! The kids loved it, and it has all of the same great features as any interactive white board would have. I can imagine that it would be an EXCELLENT deal for [$], if your room was set up just right for it! All you need is the right room configuration, and you are all set. Just make sure that you have:1. A hard, flat surface to project on.2. A place for your computer, projector, and the Now!Board laser to rest on that is about 8-12 feet in front of your screen. Each time you set it up, be prepared to spend a minute re-calibrating your screen. It's not hard, it just takes 60 seconds, but it has to be done. It also has to be done again if somebody knocks the laser down or moves it. But these are really the only disadvantages of the unit! Other than that, you can do anything with it that you can do with any interactive white board! It's a wonderful, interactive tool, and it would be a great addition to any classroom, provided that your room configuration will allow for its use.Heidi Butkus

Once calibrated...LOVE IT!
from Oakland, CA
Comments about now!Board® For Your Classroom:
I was so excited when my now!Board arrived at school. I set it up the first day and could not get it to calibrate. After changing batteries in all wands and styllus' I was finally able to get it to calibrate. Once calibrated... I LOVE IT and so do my students. I love that I have pull up a worksheet online, turn the board on, let my students write on it, then erase, and do it again! Love that I can do so much with it!Also all my fellow teachers have come by to look at it and all ask where it is. They are expecting something big, instead they are all surprised at how little it is. I have already gotten another teacher to buy one...now working on the rest of the teachers!

IWB on the Go is a Great Deal
By Shell Teacher Trainer
I had the opportunity to try this product, basically a portable Interactive White Board. I like portable products that are small and easy to transport. When I found out about the now!Board it met these requirements and made me excited about the potential of being able to carry IWB technology everywhere I go and so that is what I did. Every month I travel to various cities and countries to train teachers. I have taken the now!Board with me. I was surprised by how small the carrying case is and how easy the set-up is. The cost isn't too bad either. The best part is that it is portable and as long as you have a projector you can set this up on the floor, desks, walls, anywhere. Learning is best when you can move it around and kids can create digitally. This is a good affordable option if you're in the market for an IWB.

Teacher Tipster Review of now!Board
By Teacher Tipster

Hey guys! Mr. Smith here from Teacher Tipster! Comin' atcha' today with another fun product review. The folks over at Learning Resources sent me a now!Board Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) to play around with. And let me just say...I'm so glad that they did! This device lets you turn any flat surface into an interactive screen. So, your brick walls, dry erase boards and unused bulletin boards can now become your IWB! How cool is that!?As with most technology tools from Learning Resources, the now!Board could not be easier to set up and use. Simply plug the now!Board camera into a computer that is connected to a projector. Download the software and double-click on the now!Board icon. Calibrate (line up) the board and start your interactive lesson right away! You'll be using the software like a pro within 30 minutes. So many of the commands that you'll be using to manipulate the board are things that you'll already be familiar with. In other words, there is no new or tricky software to study up on. It's basically a plug and play situation. :)I was really surprised by how compact this gadget was. It's about the size of a PB+J with the crusts cut off. It could easily fit into your purse...ahem...I mean man bag if you needed to. Because of the size, the now!Board is truly a portable device. You could easily move it to a new location and set it all up again in just a few minutes. That's not an option with the stand alone or mounted IWBs. This portability opens up several options for you. One thing that springs to mind is sharing the device with others. It would be very easy to pass it back and forth between a couple of your closest teaching buddies. Just plug it up...re-calibrate...and start your lesson! You could even split the cost and buy one of these together! The now!Board is already very affordable. Probably about 1/3 of the cost of a traditional Interactive Whiteboards. Splitting the cost would make it down right cheap! It's by far the most cost effective way to create an "interactive environment" in your classroom. Most of my experience with IWBs is with a mounted Smartboard using the SMART Notebook software suite. After playing around with the now!Board software, I feel like I can fairly compare the two. The now!Board really does offer ALMOST all of the same features that the competition does. The few features that are missing are honestly ones that I rarely use anyway. The now!Board lets you draw, write, move objects, highlight text, play video, share student work, take snapshots, pull up the internet, etc. So, all of the most important features are going to be present for you to use.I would recommend that you check out the now!Board on your own. I think you'll be just as impressed as I was. This device is so easy to use! It's a breeze to move from place to place. It's the most affordable option that you're going to find on the market. It does the same exact job that the more expensive boards are going to do for you. It will transform any activity into a more interactive experience with very little work on your part. It makes the learning fun, exciting and authentic! The now!Board will truly help you to take your teaching to the....Next Level!!!Bottom line? Because of the price, portability and performance, Teacher Tipster gives this "Cool Tool" a stamp of approval!
portable interactive whiteboard

I was excited to receive a NowBoard from Learning Resources to test out in my classroom. It's surprisingly small and portable, so it can be shared among other classrooms, and is a less expensive option. To set up the NowBoard, simply install the software, hook the USB cord from camera to computer, open the NowBoard program, and follow the on-screen directions to calibrate the board. This involves placing the stylus on certain points around the board or wall. Anytime the camera is moved, you will need to calibrate the board again, but it's a pretty quick process. The process gets quicker after you have done it a few times. Because of the way my classroom is set up, I needed to purchase a 10-foot USB extension cord to connect to the 6-foot cord that was provided. If using it with young children, you will need to find a place to sit the camera where it won't get bumped by the children. If the camera is moved, it has to be calibrated again. Finding the right spot in my classroom for set up was a little tricky because my projector is installed on the ceiling, but it worked out.I had my class use websites such as Starfall.com in a large group setting. We drew and wrote letters on the blank page on the NowBoard software. I made learning activities with PowerPoint to use with Now Board. If PowerPoint is used in edit mode (not as a slideshow), children can move clipart around the screen.Great if you need a portable and/or less expensive option for an interactive whiteboard.

This device is truly remarkable and it will take interactive learning/whiteboard world by storm! Our district tech team says these small portable devices will eventually take over the larger IWBs (interactive white boards). And I believe them…for these reasons:1. Cost – at [$], it is much more affordable for districts to put these in classrooms. Throw in a projector and it's at least a 1/3 of the price of a Promethean or SMART board. Write a grant for Donors Choose or other funding sources, and you could have one in your room before you know it!2. Installation – there is no bulky board to set up. All you need is a flat, smooth surface – like the dry erase type white board that many classrooms already have.3. Portability – In theory teachers could share these devices. Place one on a cart with an LCD projector, a laptop (if the teacher doesn't already have one), and you're good to go.The Now!Board works just like an IWB, but without the big screen. You still need a projector, and you still need a computer. If you can manage to get your hands on those, you're all set. When I got the device in the mail, I was surprised by the small packaging. It was neatly packed in a blue box with the device, the stylus and a neat little carrying pouch. My students loved the hand pointer/stylus that is an added option for the Now!Board. The kids are already familiar with these kids of pointers, so they will be excited to see it! It is super kid friendly, and I love that it is longer than a standard stylus. It allows those little arms to really reach the object that they want to move around! The set-up process with simple, just insert the disc and follow the on-screen instructions. Super easy. I used it on a Mac and there were no issues along the way.I had a few struggles with the calibration of the device though. My LCD projector is mounted on the ceiling, and although the instructions say that you can still use the device with a ceiling mounted projector, I struggled a bit. My cables were simply not long enough to have the computer and Now!Board far enough behind the projector. After some frustration, I decided to try it in a different classroom with an LCD projector that is on a cart. After some trial and error, I did have success. The device worked just like an IWB. In fact, I could even open up my Promethean Software and use the flipcharts that I have already created.I think this device is a great alternative to schools/teachers that really want to have the features of an IWB, but simply can't afford the expense. This little gadget is portable, so it could be checked out and shared among grade levels. Just keep in mind that each time it is moved it does need to be re-calibrated. I really appreciate Learning Resources giving me the opportunity to check out this new technology! I do think that this is the future of interactive technology!

I was sent the now!Board to use in my classroom and what a wonderful tool to try out!The now!Board is surprisingly very small and easy to set up for use. In just a few short minutes, I was able to set it up and give it my first try…A now!Board can be used on any solid flat surface and if you use the wand, which looks like a hand, you can easily use the now!board on a wall or screen. The wand is very kid friendly and the little pointed finger is simple to use for selecting and guiding objects to move across the wall…I set the screen set up to be rather large in my classroom which meant the children had to use their whole body to interact with the screen...The children had to learn to stand just a bit off to the side so their shadow would not get in the way of what they were doing or looking at. The children caught on quickly and were so focused on reaching for the paint, or digging the dirt, or watering the plants that they never even seemed to notice their shadows at all…Interactive technology like the now!Board can extend real life learning in many ways and keep the learning positive and fun in the process. I look forward to exploring all the amazing ways we can integrate the now!Board into what we are already doing in our classroom…You can see my entire review at www.teachpreschool.org

I am excited to introduce you to the now!Board, a Learning Resources Portable Interactive Whiteboard Technology to use in the classroom.now!Board offers similar interactions to SMART technology without the board. This is a cost effective solution to purchasing a $1500 interactive board. now!Board is available at the affordable price point of [$] I was a bit surprised to receive a package as small as a shoe box. I was certain more was still to come. After opening, I pleasantly stunned to see how portable the device really was! Technology that literally fits in the palm of my hand! With only three steps, my new now!Board was installed and operating successfully! Step 1: Download the software.Step 2: Hook up the camera by USB cord.Step 3: Calibrate the board with the stylus.NOTE: You will need a projector and a computer to interact with the now!Board technology. The portability factor is a HUGE plus. As a team teacher, I'm able to pass along the technology to my partner to use in her class. No longer are the worrisome days of moving grade levels or classrooms and leaving the installed technology behind! The product comes with a wand and stylus for differentiated motor skills. Since you are using a regular whiteboard, you do not have the touch capabilities of the SMART Board.
