Comments about Pop for Word Families™ Game:

I use this game for centers and small groups in my second grade classroom. It quickly became a favorite, as the directions are simple and easy to follow. Yet, the game provides wonderful practice for word families and rhyming with a great twist if a "POP" card is drawn. My favorite aspects about this game are that it is sturdy and compact. All of the pieces and spinner fit in the box, which is extremely sturdy. The directions are printed on the box, meaning they will not be LOST {brilliant!}. There are a TON of pieces included so students can play multiple times without having repeat pieces often. Again, these pieces and the spinner are super thick and sturdy so they will not become torn or damaged during play, even with lots of little hands on them. The word families included are of varying levels, so even second-graders are challenged throughout the game. A wonderful addition to any classroom!

*I did receive this game as a product to review for my teaching blog, but would not hesitate to buy more of these for my classroom.

Comments about Pop for Word Families™ Game:

This game is recommend for children ages 6 to 8 so it was perfect for my boys since they are 6 and 8! Two to four people can play so get the whole family involved. You'd be surprised, as a parent, how what might seem like an "easy" game is actually quite challenging at times! POP for Word Families™ helped my 8-year-old build on his vocabulary while it introduced my 6-year-old to new word combinations. His lowest scoring on the State test last year in Kindergarten was rhyming so I think this game really helped him grasp the concept more effectively!

I love the popcorn box that the game pieces come in - it's lightweight and easy to take from place to place. The rules are really simple and easy for kids to remember.

Great Game for my Kindergarten students

Comments about Pop for Word Families™ Game:

I am always looking for fun games to play with my kindergarteners at school. I especially love games that help students with their literacy skills and help teach them words. Pop for Word Families from Learning Resources is an excellent game for this!

First of all, I love the packaging for this game. It comes in a popcorn shaped box. I love that it is small because it does not take up a lot of space. The instructions are also printed on the side of the package. I am always losing instructions so that makes my life a lot easier.

This game is very simple to play. A player picks a popcorn card out of the box and spins a spinner. The spinner indicates how many words need to be said with the ending on the card. If the player get the correct number of words, they keep the card. If not, it is put to the side. The big surprise here are the "POP" cards. If they are picked, the player has to put all their popcorn cards back into the box. You keep playing until the box is empty. Once the box is empty, the person with the most cards wins.

I love that Pop for Word Families helps students with reading and making small words. It makes the children think about words they know. I also like that it is also great practice for rhyming as well. I am very excited to use it in my classroom. Many of my students are now understanding rhyming, sounds, word families, and more. This is a game that I know my students will enjoy.

Pop for Word Families would be an excellent game to have in your home. It is great for helping your child learn new words, learn reading skills, and for rhyming practice.

We got this game and played it with the kids in our family. (ages 7, 9 and 11 years of age). I love the popcorn storage box, really cute & I appreciate that the instructions for game play are printed on the box, nothing to lose in the future!

The game is compact so it's a great game to take while traveling as it can be played in the backseat of the car, on a plane, etc. The popcorn pieces are really well-made and durable. The game took us approximately 40 to 60 minutes to play each time we played it and the kids really enjoyed it!

This is a great learning game!

              By Lisa

              from NV

Comments about Pop for Word Families™ Game:

The game was simple enough for my 5 and 7 year old to play together, but it wasn't frustrating. I know my kids give up easily if a game is too frustrating. However, the game is still challenging enough for their age group. The game is really cute. The little popcorn box is filled with little popcorn shaped cardboard pieces. Each player spins and then they pick a piece of popcorn. The popcorn has either a beginning or ending word sound. The word sounds are ones that you can add multiple letters to in order to make a number of words. So you can either spin a 1, 2 or 3. For example: if you spin a 2 you will attempt to make 2 words using the beginning or ending word sound. This is really fun for my kids to do. My 7 year old is able to read the sounds on each piece of popcorn, but my 5 year old can't just yet. My 7 year old helped my 5 year old by reading the word sound to her and she was still able to add letters to it and make a word. If the player pulls a piece of popcorn out that says POP then that players puts all the popcorn pieces back in and has to start over. The player with the most popcorn pieces collected wins. You collect the popcorn pieces by creating the correct amount of words with the word sound you pick.

A was provided for my blog review.

              Pop for Word Families

              By Chalk Talk

              from Dallas/Fort Worth Texas

Comments about Pop for Word Families™ Game:

just tried out the word game Pop for Word Families by Learning Resources and it was lots of fun! I used it with the little boy I have been tutoring this summer. There are several ways to play the game. We played where you spin the spinner, take that many pieces of popcorn from the tub, and make a word for each piece of popcorn. For every word family ending you read correctly you get to keep the piece of popcorn. For example, if your piece of popcorn says "ake" then you might say "cake" or "rake. The person with the most pieces of popcorn at the end of the game wins! If you pull a "pop" then all of your pieces go back into the tub. The game comes with short and long word families so you can easily differentiate based on the students you have playing. It is a fun way to practice reading word families, making words, and recognizing the difference between long and short vowels sounds.

This game would make a great addition to literacy centers or the daily five word work rotation. After you play it repeatedly in whole group, you can move it into word work. If you want to add a recording sheet or writing component to it then have students record the words they read or see how many words they can make for each word family. The possibilities are endless!!
