My family received the Design & Drill Power Tool Workshop as a gift and I would recommend it to others with children interested in tools and design.

    PROS
    * All the parts store neatly in the case.
    * Good for both boys and girls
    * As long as the bolts aren't over tightened, it's easy to spin them in and out of the white board. This is great for parents who may want to put the toy away quickly. My 5, 8, and 10 year old actually played with this toy a bit before I installed batteries and had fun doing so.
    * Although the instructions say to NOT use rechargeable batteries, we were able to use this product successfully with rechargeable batteries.
    * With two "power" tools, kids can use this toy simultaneously with minimal bickering.
    * While this product is targeted for a younger audience (ages 3-6), my children from 5 years old to teenagers had fun making their own patterns on the activity board.
    * Although 19 different patterns are included in the booklet, Educational Insights encourages parents to let the child play freely with the tools and bolts. This allows the child to create their own pattern, picture, or just randomly screw in the bolts. Younger children may not be be interested in creating pictures but they can have a lot of fun learning how the power and manual tools operate.
    * Includes 100 bolts and 20 fun shaped bolts in five different bright colors.
    * I think this is a great introductory product to something like E.I.'s Design & Drill Power Play Vehicle sets

    CONS
    * Both the Power Screwdriver and Power Drill require 3 AA batteries EACH.
    * The description doesn't mention a socket bit but there is a picture of one in the instruction booklet. That would be a welcome addition to this set. There is a manual socket wrench though.
    * If any of the bolts are in the activity board, the storage case can't be properly stored. It can be quite tedious and time consuming to undo a child's creation just to put it away. Some kids are also very sad that their creation

Comments about Learning Resources Design & Drill® Power Tool Workshop:

My 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl love this toy. They love to mess around with drilling and undrilling things. The only flaw is that the case isn't very kid friendly. You have to place each nut, bolt, and piece in a certain way in order for the case to close. I have difficulty as a parent to even do it sometimes. For us, the kids just leave it open in the 'tool area' but I do wish we could close it up and properly put it away!

Comments about Learning Resources Design & Drill® Power Tool Workshop:

My twins were SO excited to receive this toy! It was perfect for them because it has two drills. Everything was very easy to work, and they dove right into it. It then evolved into making patterns and getting more creative. This toy kept my boys entertained for a very long time, and I love how it challenged them and got them thinking about the way things work. It's definitely an indoor product as it has lots of pieces!!

Comments about Learning Resources Design & Drill® Power Tool Workshop:

I received this product for free to provide my honest feedback.

My sons (age 6 and 4) love this drill set! They will sit for hours and play and design different patterns. They love the different bolts (regular and ones with shapes) and the different drills and wrenches it comes with. I like that it all comes in one case, for easy play and storage. Some of the drill bits fit a bit tight in the slots, so my 4 year old has a little trouble fiting them back in.
Overall it is a great set and a big hit with my boys!

Comments about Learning Resources Design & Drill® Power Tool Workshop:

Our 5 year old son loves all of the Design & Drill products and this most recent addition has been the best yet. We love the carry case that has room for all the tools, bolts and board. Love the combinations of power and manual tools and the new bolt styles with fun designs. We have been using the toy to practice patterns which is something his preschool teacher had suggested and he prefers the pattern practice on this toy rather than coloring work sheets. He also likes that he power tools are in a case just like daddy's are. I can see where he will be using this toy long term.

I am a pediatric occupational therapist and found this design and drill kit fantastic! It provides many fine motor practice opportunities and both boys and girls loved it! The "drilling" action is not too noisy and the nuts/bolts/screws are the perfect size for little hands. This toy provides many hours of fun and exploration.

First off, I love the large case because everything stores in one, neat container. My son was excited about all the tools and nuts/bolts that came included with this kit – he wanted to play as soon as he saw this toy, and had fun making patterns on the large work area! The case and tools seem sturdy and hope we will enjoy for a long time!

Comments about Learning Resources Design & Drill® Power Tool Workshop:

My almost three year old LOVES this drill set. His 5 year old sister likes to create some of the patterns in the book provided, and he does more free play with them. The different shapes and colors are great for creativity building. The carrying case is a little hard to fit everything in, I suppose because it has so much goodness crammed inside, so clean up requires adult help. While this is a favorite toy at home, we bring this out to places where we will be waiting for a while. The kids can dump everything out, and the pieces are big enough that we don't lose anything.
