Comments about Learning Resources Student Grouping Pencils:

I bought this product a few years ago and have loved using it in the classroom.
It is the perfect way to mix your groups up and change the dynamics in your class.

I allow my students to pick a pencil from the pot (you can see them discussing which colour, shape or number to get so they can stay with their friends). I like to do this because it gives ownership to the child and takes any negativity for the outcome away from me as they were the one choosing which pencil to get. I then am able to ask students to create their groups a number of ways
    - Same number
    - odd/even numbers
    - once of each number
    -same shapes
    -one of each shape
    -same colours
    - warm/cool colours
    -one of each colour
    - etc (there are lots of different combinations)
it means that you are always able to mix groups up and have students work with people that they wouldn't usually work with.

I have recommended this product to friends and colleagues :)
